Robotex (left) are moving on from their prototype and building their actual robot.
Swags (right) are making modifications to the basic clawbot model, enhancing the designs to meet our game needs. Homeworks: Parents, review the Key Concepts section of the robotics home page and review the "Turning Scrub" concept. This principle will be key to how well the robots will drive. Robotex - start thinking of how to program the robot. Unlike the October competition, we will need to fetch balls and score in basket, before we park... Think of how we can use sensors to help. E.g. move until we hit a fence; move forward until we cross two black lines; look around until you find a blue ramp; etc. Swags - robot is too long by 4'. Expand on ideas discussed in class:
Engineer's log: DO NOT REINVENT THE WHEEL. Coach Hisa's pet peeve... If you have a working prototype / base model to work off of. Please leverage it!!!!

Bucky long-bottom is now able to score consistently from beyond the scoring zone. Homework for Friday = mount motor at base, and move pivot point, 12" higher than motor.
Swags continued to build on fundamental skills, working to build sample robot bases. Me: Now that we have some time... What do you want to build?
All: Scoring machine!! The swags (4th grade team) joins practice with the Robotex in October (Kamalei dressed for Halloween). This design discussion lead to "buckey long-bottom", which is a bucket, with long tail, attached to a "selfie-stick". Engineer's log: Let the kids design. Show the kids how to fish for three weeks, watch the kids teach each other how to fish for bigger tastier fish :) We had three action packed weeks with loaded with lots of designing, building, and testing. The kids did really well at the County tournament, scoring well against most middle schools. Check out the scores posted for team "4330" here: https://goo.gl/un4X0g
As a result of the good standings, we are invited to State championship in February (accepted), and a national tournament in April (declined as it may conflict with World championship). Kaiden programming at home, the night before the competition.
Painters tape = dimensions that the robot needs to move in programming mode. Due to time constraint, we didn't have lead time to procure official game equipment. Now what?
We don't have time to accomplish all the goals of the game? Now what? Engineer's Log(s):
